Terms of Service

Last updated: 1 November 2026

These terms explain what Provenly does, what a proof can and cannot show, and what we each take responsibility for. By creating an account you accept them.

1. What Provenly does

Provenly creates a record that a specific file or web link existed at a specific time. Your device calculates a SHA-256 fingerprint, we collect fingerprints into batches, and the batch is sealed on a public blockchain. A second record is made through OpenTimestamps where available.

You receive a proof that can be checked later, including with our open verification tool and a public blockchain connection, without relying on our servers.

2. Your account

You need an account to create proofs, and you must give a working email address. Checking a file does not need an account.

Keep your password private. You are responsible for what is done through your account, including anything done through API keys you create. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has access.

3. What a proof shows

A proof shows that this exact file, or this exact link, was recorded no later than the time shown, and that a file matching the proof has not changed by a single byte since.

A proof does not show that the content is true, that it is lawful, who created it or who owns it. Where several accounts recorded the same file, the earliest record counts, and later records show only that someone had it by then.

4. Files, links and fingerprints

Your files stay on your device and are never uploaded to us. You must keep the original file and your proof file. If the original is lost or changed in any way, including compression by a messaging app, the proof can no longer be matched to it.

Recording a link proves only that the exact address was recorded at that time. We do not open, read or store what the link shows, and we do not check who published it or whether it later changes or disappears.

5. Names and verified issuers

You can choose to show your name on a proof. That name is entered by you and is not checked by us, and anyone checking the proof sees it marked that way. You can hide it at any time.

A firm can sign only after an owner or admin proves its domain in DNS. Its members then sign in its name, and the firm answers for what they sign.

A confirmed domain shows who controls that internet address. It does not confirm a registered company or a person's identity. Check that it is the domain you expect.

6. Legal effect

A proof is electronic evidence. It is not a qualified electronic time stamp under the EU eIDAS Regulation, and it is not a notarial act. Provenly is not a notary, and using it does not replace a notary, a lawyer or a qualified trust service. A court or other body decides what weight to give a proof.

7. Blockchain records are permanent

Anything written to a public blockchain is permanent, and nobody, including us, can remove it. Only batch fingerprints are written there. They contain no file content, name or email address.

During the current test period, proofs are written to a test network. Test networks can be reset, so these proofs are for trying the service and should not be relied on as lasting evidence.

8. Plans and limits

Each plan has a monthly proof limit, shown in your account. A firm's proofs count against the firm's plan, and personal proofs count against yours. A paid plan lasts until the date we confirm to you. After that date the free limit applies until it is renewed. Proofs you already created stay valid.

Prices and payment for paid plans are agreed before purchase.

9. Acceptable use

Do not use Provenly for anything unlawful, to mislead people about a file or its origin, to pose as another person or company, to attack or overload the service, or to get around its limits.

10. Blocking and ending an account

We can block an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk. A blocked account cannot log in, and its API keys stop working. Proofs that were already sealed can still be checked.

You can delete your account at any time in your settings. A firm must keep at least one owner, so transfer it first if you are the only one.

11. Service and liability

We work to keep Provenly reliable, but it is provided as it is, and we cannot promise it will never be interrupted. Sealing depends on public networks outside our control.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect loss, for lost files or proof files, or for how anyone treats a proof. Nothing here limits rights you have that cannot legally be limited.

12. Changes and contact

We may update these terms. When a change matters, we will tell you before it applies, and the date at the top of this page will change.
